Hesston has returned for a second summer with SYC! He is excited to be back working with the kids. He is looking forward to seeing familiar faces and meeting new campers. Learn more about Hesston in a couple days!
Valerie lives in Crownpoint, NM and is back at SYC for her third summer! She worked for two years as a counselor and is now a director! Valerie has three children of her own who attend camp. Her passion is working with children.
Counselor, Cooking Specialist, Diné Culture Specialist
Sierra is entering her sophomore year at Johnson and Wales University in Denver. She is earning her Associates Degree in Culinary Arts and plans to pursue a career in Dietetics. Sierra is an animal lover and has two dogs and a cat. She loves trying new things, teaching others what she knows, and also gaining knowledge from others!
Tom graduated from Thoreau High School in 2016. She has served on the Youth Board of the Thoreau Community Center and coached middle school basketball. She is from Continental Divide, New Mexico. Tom loves spending time with kids! Her favorite super hero is "Flash" and she enjoys a bowl of spaghetti!
Ciara hails from Gallup New Mexico and graduated from Gallup High School in 2017. She is studying nursing at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. This is her first year at camp and she's excited for the opportunity to spend time with kids!
Leah taught on Navajo Nation for five years. She grew up in Chicago, but feels at home in the Land of Enchantment. Leah is an avid reader and loves the outdoors. She is excited to share a fourth season of camp with new and returning campers!
Counselor and Art Specialist
Israel is back for his second summer at SYC. He graduated from Thoreau High School and attends Grand Canyon University. He has volunteered at the Thoreau Community Center and Broken Arrow Bible Ranch. Israel loves to be active outside, whether it’s sports or camping/hiking. He also enjoys playing the guitar and singing, and is always friendly when meeting someone new!
Kevina is from Churchrock, NM. She graduated from Wingate High School and attended ITT Tech in Phoenix. She loves to travel and see the scenery of the mountains and landscapes. She also enjoys playing the guitar and learning new things.

Tyler graduated Thoreau High School in 2018. He has played both basketball and volleyball. Tyler enjoys taking road trips, drinking Boba Tea, and spending time with his family and friends. His favorite colors are army green and navy blue.
Counselor and Nature Exploration Specialist
Elisha graduated from Thoreau High School in 2017. He now attends University of New Mexico in Gallup and is majoring in Automotive Technology. He enjoys skating, football, working on vehicles, and drinking coffee.
Claire taught on Navajo Nation for three years. A Speech and Language Pathologist in Denver, she loves to visit her friends in New Mexico as much as she can. She is looking forward to the fourth season of camp!
